EDM #70 - Draw what you're afraid of.

I drew this because it was on the list. Fear it... respect it.... I actually feel a little sad for the poor black widow spider. I have seen a few on our property and have immediately gotten rid of it.
I can see no good reason to allow it to live and multiply.

Fatalities caused by bites from Black Widows are rare,
but do cause swelling and discomfort and a physicians treatment is highly
recommended since a certain segment of the
population is more susceptible to the venom than others.

EDM #34 - Draw a fall leaf

Trees
(For Mrs. Henry Mills Alden)

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
- Joyce Kilmer

EDM #55 - Draw a doorknob, plain or fancy

I did not realize it at the time, but the years that I spent growing up in an old Victorian home had a tremendous impact on the way I see design. Even the door knobs in our old house were works of art! I created this door knob art using some of the design elements from our old house.

EDM #13 - Draw your telephone (land line, cell, old-fashioned?)

It's been amazing to me to witness the rise of the telephone. I would have never been able to guess that the phone/cell phone would have such a dominant place in our lives in today's culture. I admit that I am not a huge fan of the phone. I would still rather talk to someone in person if at all possible. Still, phones are pretty cool to draw.

EDM #189 - Draw a shaver or razor

This is a 1960 safety razor I purchased on Ebay. I was pretty excited about getting and maybe a little nervous about nicking and cutting my face with this OLD technology razor. It was not so bad. I have yet to seriously injure myself and the cost of the blades are a lot less than buying blades for the newer quad blade gimmicky razors of today.

EDM #102 - Draw a power plug

I am not sure how many of these power plug adapters we have in our house, but I buy them several at a time because out older home does not have the three prong outlets.

EDM Sketch #67 - a quick sketch of mom

67 - Draw something Mom - your mother,
something that reminds you of motherhood. Journal, too.

My mom is an incredible inspiration in my life. She is ALWAYS making sure that others are OK and has always shown me what it means to live a life of love and to serve others. Her love and kindness will forever guide my way of thinking and be a part of who I am.

Every Day Matters item #37 - Draw Some Keys

Keys are pretty important on my list of every day items. This particular set of keys is especially important to me - at least the key fob that is holding the keys. My sister Rox gave this to me as a gift. She bought this in Ireland in 2001. Rox passed away from cancer in Dec 2008.

President Harry S. Truman

At different points in his presidency, Truman earned both the highest and the lowest public approval ratings that had ever been recorded. Despite negative public opinion during his term in office, popular and scholarly assessments of his presidency became more positive after his retirement from politics and the publication of Truman's memoirs. Truman's legendary upset victory in 1948 over Thomas E. Dewey is routinely invoked by underdog presidential candidates. Truman has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.

214 Belmont

Here's another pen and ink from 1983 in Greenville, SC. I was 22 years old and sketching every day for a few dollars. It was like boot camp for artists. It was very difficult to make ends meet, but I would not trade the experience for any other.

Paradise Lost... at 16 years old

I was 16 years old when I painted this scene for my 9th grade biology class. I was obviously influenced by some of the songs of the day. Remember the lyrics to this Joni Mitchell song? " They paved paradise and put up a parking lot...."

EDM Challenge #2 - Draw a Lamp

I try hard to get a sketch in every evening. Last night was a little more difficult than usual. We had no electricity in our house, so I sketched the blue lantern I used to light the kitchen while I listened to my battery-powered radio.
