EDM #60 - Draw an automobile

I found this car on a bike ride across the state of South Carolina (in the low country) several years ago. It was only a matter of time before I decided to draw it. We went by it again this past year on our way back from the beach. The owner must not have moved it at all because small trees were growing up through the front fender.

Ship - 1990

Here's a pen and ink drawing of a ship I did in 1990
for TopTec, Inc in Simpsonville, SC.
This was for the cover of their Fall price list.

It's hard to believe it's been 19 years ago! Ouch.

Terry

Terry is a good friend of our family. I have learned a lot from every one of my friends.
From Terry I have learned how important it is to have leaders that are passionate about helping others in the community. Terry does that as well as anyone I know.
I am fortunate to be able to call him my friend.

Millard Fuller Celebration of Life

I had the honor of creating this illustration for the Fuller Center for Housing. The Fuller Center (http://fullercenter.org/) will be hosting a celebration of the life for Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller on March 14-15 in Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Fuller passed away unexpectedly on February 3, 2009. His vision and work with thousands of volunteers built 300,000 houses for more than 1.5 million people since 1976.

The Ice House

The Ice House was a drawing I did back in 1983 when I had just gotten out of art school.

I drew many of the houses in the historic district of Greenville, SC. The "ice house" was built from the stones of the old ice storage building in Greenville. Ice was delivered to homes and businesses by wagon in the days before refrigeration.

Here’s some information on ice harvesting that was done in those early days:

Mary C II

Mary C II... My daughter was not happy about me doing a second drawing of her ... and posting it again. Unfortunately, that's one of the hazards of having a dad that is an artist.

Tindale Ave - Greenville, SC

This drawing was a commission I did during the Christmas of 2000. This was supposed to be a surprise, so I tried to go unnoticed as I took my photos of the home. I was told the drawing brought tears to the eyes of the recipient. It's a bonus to get that kind of feedback, but I don't always get to hear the end result.

Home in Greenville, SC - 1983

Greenville, SC - 1983
This is one of several pen and ink commissions I drew nearly 30 years ago.
I don't even want to say how much I sold these for back then.
I was just glad to be able to make some money with my art.
These drawings were done in the McDaniel Ave area of Greenville, SC in 1983.

League Family Home Place

This is a pencil drawing of an old family home place in Mauldin, SC
This is pretty typical of a small southern home with a porch on the front or side of the house.
Imagine what it was like just sitting and talking on the porch (sipping lemonade?) and enjoying a cool breeze on a Summer day.

Doodling Stars

For me, doodling is one of the best ways to practice drawing and shading. There are no definite rules, but one rule for this one seems to be that there has to be some kind of star in each section of the drawing.

Thank you ever so much for helping with our museum. The "Hornet's Nest" flag is a fantastic addition to our unique collection... as well as a great fundraiser!

I am sending this one to you as a token of our appreciation of your work. - Bob Williamson, Chairman

Restoration uses portrait skills

This is a restoration job I did today for a canvas print job.
I used some of the same techniques I use in some
of my portrait sketching to save this incredibly faded photograph.
Honestly, I wasn't sure I could save it!
